Projects

So you’ve probably got the idea by now…I do a lot of pretty weird stuff, Here is a selection of some of my favourite projects from the last few years that I’ve been involved in…

EnterprisingYou

This is a web based course which has been designed to support students 16+ in the development of a portfolio of enterprise skills through self guided static content and activities. key topic areas include:

  • Self Awareness
  • Collaborative Working
  • Practical Creativity
  • Opportunity Awareness
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Action Orientation

I think that these resources could help support staff looking for a way to engage students in understanding enterprise skills and developing an interest in the area. The courses are short and could be mounted on a VLE or website allowing access from anywhere in the world at the students own convenience.

The Virtual Enterprise Conference

This is a conference I organise every year, it’s the only event of its kind in Wales and is aimed at students and staff with an interest in: business and entrepreneurship, computing, internet technologies, social networking and web 2.0. It’s a bit mad cap, a little eccentric but normally lots of fun.

Team Altitude

Kieran and I recently took part in  a charity Tuk Tuk ride around India as part of the Winter Rickashaw Run 2011, it was an absolutely crazy little project which saw us travelling over 2500 miles across the subcontinent in out 130cc little beastie, please visit our website to find out more about what we did and the amazing friends we made along the way.

The TED Team

TED is a team of innovative academics at Glyndŵr committed to embedding enterprise and entrepreneurial education at the centre of their curricula through research and practice. I organise the TED team and have recently secured a funding bid from the Leadership Foundation to develop this work so watch this space for more information!

1412 Ale

Getting students to design and be involved in brewing their own beer has to be a highlight of any educator’s career. The beer, 1412, was a small batch ale made to a unique blend inspired by the students’ design, with a bottle bearing our University’s distinctive brand colours.

The idea was put together by a team of five design and media students as part of a University-wide competition to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009.

In an Apprentice-style event run by The Zone, the teams were given one day and tasked with designing a concept for a new beer to promote the university – including suggestions for flavouring, packaging and branding.

Presentations were filmed and sent to Brewdog founder James Watt, who selected 1412 as the winning entry. James treated the videos as if they had been real pitches and then got involved to help us brew the beer, including letting us visit the brewery in the north of Scotland…that was a mad little road trip!

inc.

inc. is the youth enterprise element of the e-factor part of the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) in North East Lincolnshire. Myself and my team developed inc. and its methodology and were responsible for guiding it to engaging over 1000 students and 100 staff in the development of our enterprise competencies. I was also instrumental in the design of the Enterprise Academy a purpose built, hi-technology teaching suite for enterprise education.
