Valuing People
Hi everyone
Before I kick this off, this blog comes with a health warning…I am going to be quite impassioned here. About a month ago I spent a couple of days with a good friend who felt that they were not being valued by their employer, frankly this pissed me off, not just because they are a friend, but because of the way in which their employer had knocked them down and made them feel less worthy to move forwards and create some amazing new products.
I can’t understand why anyone would run a business or manage employees this way, in today’s content economy people with ideas, passion and ability are crucial to the success of your company you need to nurture them and they will create amazing art.
If your running a company now, or thinking of running one and are going to have employees think about what Google has done by giving their employees 25% of their time to spend on personal projects and all the amazing stuff this has created…or looks back to Ricardo Semler and the phenomenal changes he made in his father’s company…give people trust, freedom and autonomy and they will do amazing things.
I honestly don’t care if you don’t believe, agree or understand me on this one; to that group here’s my advice: stop managing and start changing…to the rest of you…
…Peace
Matt
