Balancing Your Life
Well I’m home so I thought I would blog…this week’s theme is Balance; something everyone thinks I make look simple. Truth is I’ve been balancing my life for years… I’m a workaholic, obsessive with a compulsion never to say no to a new opportunity, and this has left me with no choice but to become pretty damn good at balancing all the mad elements of my life to try and achieve all-round awesomeness!
Now I might make it look easy (I don’t think do, heck), but the truth is I spend hours working, have a huge calendar, and survive on countless lists, post-it notes and note taking services such as Springpad… I do all this because naturally… I suck at balance and I put a huge effort into getting it right…Yep, I suck, there it is, but I’ve learnt and so can you; here’s how I’ve made it work in my own little insane world:
1. Priorities – Get them straight; whether its family, work or a hobby decide what comes first…there is only a finite amount of time in the day and sometimes you will have to choose between your passions so pick them, put them in order and stick to it no matter happens, you will be one heck of a lot less confused about what your doing.
2. Organisation – Find what works; I use a mixture of Google calendars, Springpad, Twitter, Facebook and regular written lists or action plans to keep track of my diary, email, contacts and actions. I route all these through my Android Desire or pin them to the wall in my home or office. It’s a bit mad cap but it works and doesn’t kill spontaneity too much…although my family and friends to have to diary time with me.
3. Updating – Keep them in check; I review my calendar, social networking sites and action plans every day, adding to them and making sure that they are as current as possible. It’s a small job in itself but if done regularly its effective.
I hope these elements help you keep your life in balance and help you achieve something epic!
Peace
Matt
